quote “I loved every minute of my time in Cynthia’s studio. Teachers and classes are great. The atmosphere is fabulous nestled in the pines and populated by birds of every persuasion. The feeling in the studio is bright and positive and encouraging and so friendly. Students are serious about making pots, but much more goes on than meets the eye. Friendships are forged, hearts and bodies are uplifted, and healing happens as a gentle side effect. Cynthia is a dear and shining light and her studio radiates with it.” – Jenny R

Open Studio Program

Practice, Practice, Practice.

Once enrolled in a class, all students past and present may take advantage of the Open Studio Program. This program is designed for those who want to practice in between classes and have some independent studio time. There are three ways to do this:

A) Hourly Open Studio Rate : $15 per hour.

B) Unlimited Open Studio Time : At the time you sign up for a session of classes, you have the option of adding $300 for an eight-week session for unlimited open studio time.

C) Independent Study : For those that have taken at least one session of classes and would rather work independently and not in a class environment, there is the option to do the Independent Study. The cost is $460 for an eight-week session.

Open Studio and Independent Study Hours:
Wednesdays : 12:00 – 5:00
Fridays : 12:00 – 5:00
Saturdays : 9:00 – 4:00
Note: Open Studio hours are subject to change.

The studio is closed Fridays after 3:00 and Saturdays before and after the last two weeks of each session to transform the studio from clay to glaze and glaze to clay.

Make Up Policy. If you miss a week of class, you will most likely be able to join another class during the session at no charge (no guarantee). Makeup classes must be used up during the current session. Open Studio time is also an option to come in and practice, yet not intended for make-up time and there would be the usual $14 per hour fee.

Bring a Guest. You may bring a guest to Open Studio (not a class) under your supervision. The first visit for your guest is free. After that, the fee is $15 per hour for your guest.

The Studio

The studio overlooks the woods and features plenty of natural light from three sides of wall to wall windows as well as skylights. There are eight electric wheels, and a spacious heavy duty worktable for hand-building and wedging. There is also a large selection of tools, forms, and textures for hand-building and a Soldner clay mixer for recycling. The studio has two high-fire electric kilns and maintains a reliable firing schedule, ensuring that all pieces are ready in a timely manner. There are two types of high-fire stoneware clay used in the studio, brown and off white. Over 30 different glazes are available and all are non-toxic, lead-free, and oven, dishwasher, microwave safe. All glazes are developed and mixed at the studio. The studio is kept clean and well-organized.
